Dunn, John

Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, where he worked in the late 18th and early 19th century; A cabinet maker by profession, he was the maker of the earliest known keyed set of small pipes (ca.1800), extending the range of the instrument from an octave to a twelfth; Probably, he was the "George Dunn" mentioned in Andrew Wright, »Life of James Allan« (1818), he is not to be confused with M. Dunn, maker of several surviving sets of Union pipes; NB: ➺ James Allan.
