Peacock, John

bagpipe maker, also a piper (or vv.) (&c.), mentioned by name

Born in Morpeth; Died in Newcastle upon Tyne; The last of the Newcastle upon Tyne Waits, he was one of the finest Northumbrian smallpipers of his age, and probably a fiddler, as well; The inventor of a "New Invented Pipe Chanter with the addition of Four Keys" (for the notes low D, E, F♯, and high a), he was thus probably the first player of the instrument to play an extended keyed chanter.
