Born in Rathnew (Irish: Ráth Naoi [NW of Wicklow]); Older brother of Felix; When, during a storm in 1948, a brick wall fell on his caravan, he was heavily injured and taken to hospital; Paralysed from the waist down, he returned home; When his condition gradually worsened, he was admitted, in 1949, to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Athy, where he died; His style of playing is said to have inspired Paddy Keenan (*1950) and others; His father John, also a piper, was the grandson of John Cash.
