According to O’Neill, "an Irish piper and publisher of no inconsiderable fame in London for at least a score of [i.e. 20; ws] years at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century"; Between 1797 [?] and 1818 he published 3 notable collections of Irish music; NB: The illustration on the title page of his »Collection of national Irish music for the Union Pipes… « [1792 (?)] shows an instrument "quite distinct and unlike any other instrument we have ever seen. But possibly the artist was to blame and neglected [Odd syntax in O’Neill; ws] to include the small drone and tenor with which such instruments are equipped".
