Colacchio, Vito

?-?

bagpipe maker, also a piper (or vv.) (&c.), mentioned by name

Born and worked in San Gregorio Magno (prov. Salerno); As a result of the transfer of family members, he had to join them in 1984, moving to Piedmont; It seems that he brought the whole equipment of his workshop along with him and that he continues/-ed [?] to manufacture Zampogne in Asti [ESE of Turin], where he currently [i.e. 2005; ws] resides, satisfying the rare commissions of a non-civic type; The lack of his shop is very significant and it is the last of the many examples of the cultural and ethnomusical disruption of the poorest regions due to emigration; He was also an able Zampognaro.

Instrument: Zampogna
