Born between Groppallo and Varsi [S of Piacenza]; Grandson of Giuseppe Maggiolo; The family, originally from the Ceno valley (prov. Parma), worked as kilnsmen for the production of lime and, following road construction works, moved to the Nure valley; Antonio lived playing and travelling, even arriving in Sweden; He is probably the player depicted in several scenes of rural parties, painted by Stefano Bruzzi (1835-1911); As was customary, his son Raffaele played the Piva at his funeral; His other son, Giacomo, who also played, is said to be "buried with the Piva"; NB¹: ➺ Ciocalapiva; NB²: ➺ Domenico Garilli.
