Born [and lived?] in Mareto (Nure valley, prov. Piacenza); During grazing livestock on the nearby Aserei mountain he learned, as a child, how to play from his brother Domenico, using the same instrument; He accompanied weddings, dances and Christmas ceremonies in the country, owned a small accordion, and was sometimes accompanied by an accordionist; He was the last to play the Piva in the valleys of Piacenza, until just before his death; As a young farmer he moved in winter to lend his work in fields and rice paddies in Lombardy; He himself built many houses in the country; With his wife Candida Segalini they had five children.
