Erriu, Pasquale

Born in San Nicolò Gerrei (in Sardu: Pauli Gerrei [or Paùli Xerèi (?)], prov. Cagliari); When 11 years old, he was sent to Sinnai, to be taught by Giovanni Pireddu; After that he began playing professionally, first in his native village, later in other places; In 1958 he was a protégé and pupil of Efisio Melis, and the only representative of the manner of playing that once prevailed in the Campidano of Cagliari; Living as a cobbler in Cagliari, he "until recently [i.e. the 1960s; ws] maintained a clientele of the villages in the Campidano of Cagliari that engage[d] him regularly for their yearly festivals"; He played with folklore groups of the tourist organisation, as well, and has travelled widely in Europe with folklore propaganda shows; He died in Cagliari; In »Launeddas« (a cura di Giampaolo Lallai) he is consistently called "Pasqualino".
