Budz-Lepsiok, Stanisław
1858-1943piper (&c.) mentioned by name
Born in Murzasichle [NE of Zakopane, [lived and?] died in Poronin [NNE of Zakopane]; The most famous and legendary piper of his region, he was a shepherd on the Mała Łąka alp; Jan Kasprowicz (1860-1926) wrote a poem, "Kobziarz Mróz", about him, and ethnomusicologist Adolf Chybinski (1880-1952) immortalised him as a "double pipe virtuoso" and called him "the last piper"; Indeed, he was the last who played the instrument at weddings and "musics" for dancing, and he was also valued for playing on the Złóbcoki (a kind of fiddle, also called Gęśle [or Gęśliki] podhalańskie); He was also a co-founder of the Podhalan Association in Poronin; The tradition of playing bagpipes was taken over by his son Jan (who was killed in Giewont, a mountain massif, in 1937 by a thunderbolt); His daughter Ludwina (1903-1943) was the wife of piper Jan Trebunia-Tutka; In Katarzyna & Maciej Szymonowiczowie, »Gajdosze«, he is mentioned as Stanisław Budz-Mróz, confusing his nickname with his actual family name; NB: ➺ Józef Galica, and Tomasz Skupień.
