López Bao, Xosé [José]
1927-[2012?]piper (&c.) mentioned by name
Born in Ardemil (a parish in district Ordes, province A Coruña); His love for music awoke when he was a child; Only 12 years old, he carved his first bagpipes by hand; Later he used a small manual lathe; When he worked at the Weapons Factory in Coruña, where he had access to the best means, he achieved a very refined technique, building bagpipes for the main groups of A Coruña: Os Cinco de Galicia, Os Labregos, Brisas da Cruña, or Ballet Galego, Cántigas da Terra, as well as for the Galician diaspora; In 2012 master Bao, then resident of Xuxán (in Eirís de Abaixo, A Coruña), had to return to his native Ardemil and thus he was the only bagpipe craftsman left in the municipality of A Coruña; Oddly, the year of his demise is not even mentioned in his obituary, which mentions, however, that "he had to leave his paradise, and the city, when he was 85 years old and his house was expropriated to build an office park" … (Continuation yet to be decided).
