Tu

Mouth organ with a gourd as wind chest

Identical types: 21

Mru people (Chittagong Hill Tracts); Described by Lorenz G. Löffler in »Mru: Hill People on the border of Bangladesh« (Basel, 1990), as a "single-pipe gourd mouth organ; according to the dictates of certain poetic verses, a set of three Tu is blown for funerals and larger cattle feasts; used also as a ceremonial item on other festive occasions, although it is not played"; NB: Unfortunately, he fails to inform us whether the 3 Tu produce the same tone [i.e. play unisono], or a simple melody.
