The first (i.e. second longest) pipe, played with the left thumb; Laˇhu_ nyiˉ (Red Lahu) and Laˇhu_ shehˇ lehˉ (Shehleh Lahu).
After insertion into their respective holes in the gourd, pipes are firmly attached and sealed; The Laˇ hu_ shehˇ lehˉ (Shehleh Lahu) in Amphur [district] Wiang Pa Pao (prov. Chiang Rai) use beeswax only, those in prov. Tak also use resin of the Pui Daw tree.
