Aw ha_ (gender unknown)
term used for single reeds, the tongue of which is attached to a frame, in which it can vibrate freely (i.e. without touching the frame); Occurs in several eastern Asian hornpipes and mouth organs (Compare accordion "reeds")
Laˇhu_ shehˇ lehˉ (Shehleh Lahu); Each reed is located at ca. 30 mm from the lower end of its pipe; To obtain the correct pitch of each pipe, their tongue is weighted down with a lump of beeswax (Pehˇ mui ceˉ or Pehˇ ma biˇ); The height of a lump can be up to 10 mm (The largest mass is piled onto the tongue of the longest pipe).
ca. 40x10x1 mm; In the lowest pipe its tongue measures 30x2 mm (In the other pipes they measure 20x2 mm); The tongues are strictly rectangular (Schwörer explicitly states that they are the same as those of the Laˇ hu_ nyiˉ (Red Lahu) reeds, and do not become narrower towards their vibrating end).
