According to Sayyid Hamid Hurreiz, »Folklore and folklife in the United Arab Emirates« (London & New York, 2002), p.183, "the word "ḥabbān" in Persian means bag", oddly adding that "This instrument looks like the Scottish bagpipes"; NB: According to the Oman Centre for Traditional Music "the term itself is generic, [whereas] in Oman the Habban is more specifically a variant of the Great Highland bagpipe which has been incorporated into local music; NB: ➺ Kuwait.
