Traditionally used for mounts, horns, &c. on many eastern European bagpipes; Also chanters have been manufactured with (sometimes alternating white and black) horn rings slipped on a thin wooden bored base.

Cow-, goat-, and other animal horn has been used in many traditions; In some cases it is difficult to obtain, and substituted by other materials.
