Cantarèla (f)

(with) definite article: ? [la?]
(the) singer [?]

only drone, adjustable: cylindrical, straight, no bell, cavity? / double reed

No identical types known (yet).

In juxtaposition with the Caramèl; NB¹: ➺ Rondinaïre, and Accord; NB²: According to footnote 2 of the Italian version of Robert’s text, “The cabrette of the Auvergne is "equipped” with a non-functioning drone, present for aesthetic reasons only" (which seems rather awkward for a single drone; Curiously, that fact is not mentioned in Robert's original French text, but it is also referred to as such by Blanc, according to whom it is "le plus souvent hors fonction" [i.e. mostly (!) off] (➺ Chanterelle [remarks and sources]); NB³: ➺ Leydi's remark regarding the use of the Cantarèl in modern instruments (in G) only; NB4: An informant on "Glosbe" (➺ below), claims that "the drone is mute" [which, in my perception, is definitely not the same as being "off"], to which he adds, however, that "it is active in mouth-blown instruments"; NB5: Probably, the latter statement provided Leydi with an opportunity to determine the pitch of a drone that is customarily silent; NB6: ➺ Chantarèla.

Pitch: d².
NB: Example(s) to be replaced with staff-notation.

Bronzidor, Cantarèl, Chanterelle, Renard, Roudinaire
