Courteous or endearing "title", in several cultures used (by younger people, sometimes even among colleagues and peers) for all good "elderly" (i.e. more than 40, 50 year old) pipers, pipe manufacturers, and usually also other craftsmen, regardless of their trade; Bulgaria: бай (baj) [which also translates as "elder brother"]; France: tonton (Brittany); Hungary: bácsi; Italy: tiu / tziu (Sardinia), zì (Molise), zu’ (Calabria), and zzù (Sicily); Poland: ujec (Silesia); Romania: nene; Serbian: чика (čika) [Compare Croatian "čika" [old man]]; Spain: tío; (&c.).
