Playing technique in which a finger must return and close its hole before lifting a next finger; To obtain a less pronounced staccato effect it is also possible to close one hole and open another at the same moment; Commonly used on (e.g.) Northumbrian smallpipes, on many Central European bagpipes, on the Asturian Gaita and also on some Gaitas galegas (which appears to be a rather recent development [I know only 2 Galician pipers with such a punteiro]).
