Boudegaire / Boudegaïre (m)
(with) definite article: loany person who plays some kind of bagpipe (&c.)
In his article »La cornemuse du Languedoc« Charles Alexandre mentions the plural form with the French definite article "les", stating that "At the beginning of the [20th] century there were about ten players", adding that "in the capital of [the church in] Villardonnel [dépt. Aude] we notice that the bagpipe player is left-handed, that is to say that his left hand is placed on the lower part of the oboe [i.e. chanter] of his instrument. This position was the most common among the "boudegaïres" of the country [and] it was also the most rational to embrace the voluminous bag of the instrument which was also held under the left arm" (NB: ➺ Catherine & Jean-Luc Matte, »Iconographie de la cornemuse en France«).
