According to Anoyanakis, all 3 bagpipes depicted in the 16th century, including the one of Nicolas de Nicolay’s "Greek villager", have a conical chanter of the common western European type, undoubtedly with a double-reed; Research has not yielded, however, any other evidence of this type of chanter, nor of double-reeds, having ever been used in Greece.
