non-protruding ring slipped around the end of a tube; preventing the wood from cracking
Ferrule; Cut to its approximate size, boiled (to soften), moulded and hammered, it is slipped on the concerning tube and filed down till its surface is level with the adjoining wood.
NB: ➺ homonym (blowpipe of the Tsabouna).
Generally made of goat or deer horn, but also molten lead and even silver have been used.
