Wait treble

Bagpipe

According to James Orchard Halliwell [-Phillipps], »Dictionary of archaic and provincial words…«, vol.II (1852), p.913, "a sort of bagpipe"; On p.869 Halliwell mentions the Yorkish term "thribble", translating it as "threefold", "treble", which Galpin interprets as the chanter and 2 drones of a bagpipe (➺ J.C. Bridge, »Town waits«, 1928).
