Northumbrian pipes (plurale tantum)

A collective name for the Border or Half-long pipes (also called Halflongs), and Northumbrian smallpipes; According to Manson (p.68), "Both the Irish and the Northumbrian pipes have [...] been elaborated until they have almost ceased to be bagpipes"; NB (plurale tantum): The term is also used when referring to 1 instrument only.
