Chanter pipes (plurale tantum)
According to Sam Grier the name for a Reel pipe with 2 drones and 2 regulators, "frequently made by Tinkers from old discarded chanters of varying types" with drones that were "chanters with all of the holes, except those wanted, blocked up"; To Grier’s understanding these pipes were both mouth- and bellows-blown, and "very common, but started to vanish during the religious reformations of the 17th and 18th centuries"; According to McCandless "a form of Lowland pipe"; NB (plurale tantum): The term is also used when referring to 1 instrument only.
