IV (Roma 1979), p.1957 (translated into Italian as «cornamusa, piva»), in which is attested its use in 5 places in Molise (in Campobasso and province (Montelongo and Santa Croce di Magliano), and in prov. Isernia (Agnone and Vastogirardi)), but according to Gioielli, this variant was also in use in the dialect of many other places in the region, as well as in neighbouring geographic areas; NB¹: Michele Castelli, who defines it as a synonym of Cornamusa, [and] Piva, spells it Scupìnë [sku’pinë]; NB²: According to Michele Marcantonio, »Etimologie dialettali dall’indoeuropeo alle parlate locali«: Saggio scientifico (Matrice, 1982), the term is a derivative “from Greek àskoma [leather bag]”, which I strongly doubt, because ασκωμα translates as “leather lining of the thole-pins, on which the oars pivots”, whereas ασκος actually translates as “leather bag”, which as a root would be more likely, if at all...; NB³: ➺ homonyms, &c.
