NOT a bagpipe, but a homonym, mentioned in Mahillon, according to whom its Croatian name is "Svardonitsa" [i.e. Svardonica; a duct flute; ws], claiming it to be a Dalmatian double flute [which, however, is called a Dvojnice; ws]; NB¹: The Svardonica is mentioned (together with Piščal, Surla, Svirala, Sviroka, Šip and Žveglja), as a kind of Tibia [pipe], and defined as a "flauto di pastori" [shepherd's flute] or "fistula rusticalis" [rustic pipe] in Stanislav Tuksar, »Hrvatska glazbena terminologija u razdoblju baroka: nazivlje glazbala i instrumentalne glazbe u tiskanim rječnicima između 1649. i 1742. godine« [Croatian music terminology in the Baroque period: the terminology of musical instruments and instrumental music in dictionaries printed between 1649 and 1742] (Zagreb, 1992, p.423 [NB² (ws): ➺ also p.270-280]); In Ardelio Della Bella, »Dizionario Italiano, Latino, Illirico« (Venezia, MDCCXXVIII [1728]), to whom Tuksar refers (➺ p.329 and 432), the name of the instrument is spelt "Svardóniza" (➺ p.320, Flauto da paſtori); NB³: Mahillon also mentions a "Zampogna semplice" [simple [or single] flute] and a "Zampogna di canna" [cane flute][, both of which are not related to the subjects of this treatise.
