drone of a triple or quadruple chanter
From "palec" [thumb]; Stopped drone at the rear of a chanter that is "triangular" in cross-section; A thumbhole enables the piper to stop it completely; In Podnos, who fails to reveal his source, spelt "Palečnice" (which is the genitive and plural form).
Same length as chanter and semidrone.
