From J. Verschuere Reynvaan, »Muzijkaal kunst-woordenboek«; Even though the illustration in this book clearly shows that its shape consists of several "truncated cones", Boone oddly describes it as "a veritable accumulation of mouldings (possibly turned in 1 piece)", adding that a similarly shaped chanter is shown in the painting De aanbidding der herders [The adoration of the shepherds] by Gilles [sic; Gillis] Backereel (1572-before 1662), in the collection of the Brussels Museum voor Schone Kunsten [i.e. Royal Museums of Fine Arts
of Belgium]. Unfortunately, the shape of the chanter, though seen from the front, is hardly discernible in the only picture (of that painting) that I was able to detect (➺ website); NB: ➺ Schalmei.
