Trypa (f)
(with) definite article: ioriginal: τρύπα (η) ((οι) τρύπες)
each of the tone producing holes of a chanter or semidrone
The chanter of the Gaida usually has 7 (ocassionally only 6) fingerholes + a thumbhole; The pipes of the Tsabouna usually have a configuration of 5 fingerholes each, but on certain of the islands only the left pipe has 5 holes, whilst the one on the right may have either 3 fingerholes (Astypalea, Fourni islands, Kalymnos, &c.), in isolated cases 2 (Fourni islands and Ikaria), or only 1 (Andros, Kos, Karpathos, Patmos, Samos, Symi, &c.); Usually the fingerholes of the Tsabouna are circular, in rare cases square, but they should all be of the same size, and spaced at equal intervals from each other.
