Chorus (m)

(with) definite article: illum [this]
➺ remark(s) below

Bagpipe, mouth-blown: nr. of stocks? (chanter type? / [additional] drones? [in ? stocks])

Identical types: 54

From Latin "corium" [skin/leather/hide] ?; From a spurious 9th century letter of St. Jerome [Hieronymus] to Dardanus; Also mentioned in »The Edinburgh encyclopædia«, conducted by David Brewster, Volume III (Edinburgh, M.DCCC.XXX [1830]), and in Paul Lacroix & Ferdinand Seré, »Le Moyen Age et la Renaissance, ...« (Paris, 1851); NB¹: Later described as a chordophone, and in the late 1900s the term Chorus has been used to indicate the bagpipe depicted in miniature nr. 260 of the 13th century manuscript »Cantigas de Santa María« (➺ Odrecillo); NB²: In Utriculus № 55 Gioielli states that the Chorus was "perhaps not real a bagpipe, but rather a bladder pipe" (which is, in my perception, a rather awkward remark, in which he shows a mixture of doubt and his (yet) unexplained opinion; ws); NB³: ➺ Zamboja.

Choraulus, Chorón
