From Greek συμφωνία (Symfonia [Latin: Symphonia]) ?; Spelling in Flood, who refers to an incorrect translation (dulcimer) of a Bible text into English (➺ Daniel 3:5, 10 and 15), dubiously defining the term, however, as a synonym of Askaulos, seemingly referring to Dion Chrysostomos († 115 A.D) as his source; NB: Stainer mentions the name, without any further reference, in the title of his Chapter VII, and in one of his appendices.
