Term (a derivative of Mezoued) for a group of musicians, one of whom used to be a Mzewdi; Since the independence of Tunisia (1956) they gradually disappeared from the cafés, however, and during the rural exodus [1980s?] the bagpipe was replaced by the mandolin (an instrument introduced in Tunisia by Sicilians), but these ensembles became quite popular among the working classes in Tunis, who hire them to play at "rboukh" (i.e. weddings and engagement parties), at which, according to Lièvre, "the invited men are permitted to dance".
