Brunidèir (m)

(with) definite article: lo (lou [➺ Remarks, NB])
(the) ?

Spelling mentioned by David Escarpit, according to whom "The initial confusion of the word "brunidèir" comes from a misinterpreted image from Jean Séguy’s »Linguistic and Ethnographic Atlas of Gascony« (Paris, 1954 [WS]). In fact, the etymological study indicates that this term defines a serious sound that "buzzes", "purrs". Therefore it designates the pipe, the reed of which serves as a harmonic and rhythmic sound base for the "pihet" which has an essentially melodic role. The Boha Method of the BdG specifies: "It was chosen to restore the form "brunidèir" (brunidey) which corresponds with the Gascon spoken in the North and East of Gascony, i.e. in the preferred area of the Boha" [transl. WS]; NB¹: ➺ NB in remarks to Bohaussac.
