Memet (gender unknown)
(with) definite article: ?original: ? (Arabic)
Ancient name, first mentioned ca. 2700 B.C.; Wikipedia informs us that "Due to their fragility, no instruments from antiquity were preserved [...], but "During the Old Kingdom in Egypt (2778–2723 BCE), memets were depicted on the reliefs of seven tombs at Saqqarra, six tombs at Giza, and the pyramids of Queen Khentkaus"; NB¹: In the description of the pipes of the instrument, the author unfortunately mentions the too often erroneously (and rather confusingly) used term "reed", which, in this context, defines the sound generator(s), whereas the material should be called by its common name, which is cane (NB²: Surprisingly, and quite unexpectedly, the author uses this term correctly in 3 sentences) !
