Mentioned in Gianfrancesco Rambelli, »Vocabolario domestico« (Bologna, 1850), in which it is defined as a "cannello animellato con cui si dà fiato alle cornamuse" [A pipe [provided with a valve (?)] with which the bagpipes are blown]. NB: According to Treccani (➺ internet) one of the definitions of the term Animèlla is "the moving part of a valve".
