Mentioned by Jacquot, who defines it as "Bagpipe or shawm from the Barbary coast" [Maghreb]; Filippo Pananti describes it, in his »Opere in versi e in prosa«, vol. 3: »Relazione di un viaggio in Algeri«« (Firenze, MDCCCXXV [1825]), as "a kind of zampogna [sic; i.e. bagpipe (ws)] that resembles the small flute [sic] a little"; According to Study.com (➺ website), "The Kabyle people are an ethnic group from Kabylia, a region in northern Algeria. They are the second largest subgroup of the Berbers, an indigenous people of North Africa. Their native language is Kabyle, part of the Berber language group".
