In English the name is commonly known as "Shehnai", which is derived from Persian شهنای (šahnāi [literally: "royal flute"; from شه (šah [king]) + نای (nāi [flute]; Compare Romanian Nai [panpipes or syrinx]); A rather rare specimen of a double-shawm, according to Mahillon "from Orissa".
