Born in Jakovići (near Tinjan [Italian: Antignana]), Istria, he moved, right after the annexation of Istria by the Kingdom of Italy in 1918, to Belgrade; According to the internet source he "is an extremely interesting and important figure in the traditional music of Istria", but even though his instruments are now in the holdings of the Etnografski Muzej Istre (EMI), some of them, including his Mih s šurlama, are claimed to be made in Belgrade and therefore "not even considered to be of ethnographic value for Istria".
