Mouth organ with a circular (cup/bowl-shaped) wind chest
One of the 3 basic variants recognised by some Chinese scholars (➺ Xiǎoshēng, Yuán shēng); Popular in Henan region; Thrasher states that it is "used in chuida ensembles on the central plain (Henan, southwestern Shandong, and neighbouring areas). Its rectangular wind chest is carved from a block of hardwood, with 14 (or fewer) pipes arranged in 3 ranks, but traditionally with only 12 reeds (Gao 1984)"; NB: ➺ Pèihé.
