One of the 3 basic variants recognised by some Chinese scholars (➺ Fāng shēng, Yuán shēng); According to Thrasher "used [today] in Jiangnan sizhu ensembles of eastern China", adding that it has "17 pipes, but usually only 13 reeds"; ➺ Xiǎo shēng (Xiǎoshēng); NB: ➺ Pèihé.
