Bourdon de bras / ~ d'épaule (m)
(with) definite article: lelow drone, adjustable: details?
According to Ricros, "All the iconographic representation in our possession shows us bagpipes with a large shoulder drone more or less erect going from a horizontal (i.e. lateral) to a vertical (inclined) position"; According to Montbel, it is "decorated with fringes and pompoms of coloured wool"; According to Ricros (p.[338]), "the disappearance of the low drones can be partially explained by the “constraint of the walls” [➺ chapter 7 (p.[267]-292)], while also relying on other criteria. [...]. The other criterion could be based on the fact that a low drone is difficult to "fit" into the playing of a shawm like that of the Cabrette, because of its scope of freedom, since this very shawm is intended [to be played] with a minimal accompaniment, [produced by] a low power parallel drone, which is often not used (➺ Chanterelle, but maintained for the principle attached to popular instruments"; NB: ➺ homonyms, &c.
