Frequently used term [in Scotland only?]; Ritson mentions it as the "old highland pipe" (versus the bellows-blown "pipe at preſent uſed in the low country, or ſouth of Scotland" [NB¹: ➺ Lowland pipes); NB² (plurale tantum): The term is also used when referring to 1 instrument only.
