upper piece of the Separator (Uilleann pipes)

Upper piece of the Separator, protecting the reed; Comparatively long, it sits, during playing, in the crook of the arm and helps to support the pipes.

Made of metal, with a closing mount, traditionally of ivory, but nowadays [i.e. late 20th century; ws] of anything suggesting ivory (this applies to all mounts on the pipes).
