From Latin "calamellus" (diminutive of "calamus" [pipe]); Name used by makers and pipers in the Siciliana valley (prov. Teramo), where it is used only as a solo instrument (without a Biffera [shawm]) or to accompany songs; It is said that pipers in the Siciliana valley played the role of animator (a "title" given to them by the community itself); NB: ➺ homonyms, &c.
