From "tserraku" [farmhand, or shepherd for another man’s flock]; Term used for playing as a "settled" Launeddas player of a village; Their contract would always allow them to dispose of 3-4 weekends a year to play at festivals in villages that had no Launeddas player of their own, they had also engagements to play at weddings; The renowned players were very much in demand for these occasions, and could obtain 500 lire for 2 day’s playing in the 1920s [today’s rate?; ws], and about 20.00-40.000 lire [today’s rate?; ws] in the post-war period [i.e. 1950s-19603; ws].
