Melodiepfeife

According to Sachs, the German term for the chanter of a bagpipe; It originally was a general term for any wind instrument with a reed as a mouthpiece; It is, however, also the name of the descant variant of the Bumbarde family (➺ Szałamaja [Poland]); Moreover, the term is used for the "Clairon" (a very clear, trumpet-like 4’ bass voice, usually combined with a stop called "Flageolet") in a Harmonium, and for an obsolete very soft 4’ or (more rarely) 2’ reed stop in Church Organs; NB¹: ➺ related terms; NB²: Kuhač mentions the term as well, but it remains uncertain whether it should be interpreted as the name of a bagpipe or of some other wind instrument...
