One of the two basic types of Dudy, played in counties Leszno, Poznań, Szamotuły, Śrem, Środa, and Wolsztyn (Wielkopolska [Greater Poland]); Its characteristic features are: [1]: B natural scale; [2]: pitches from F♯ to B♭-B; [3]: large dimensions; [4]: the use of plum (more rarely acacia) as a basic building material (➺ Wood types used); [5]: a twisted and long drone bell, suitable to throw it across the piper’s arm; [6]: a wooden Kolano, covered with leather; [7]: the characteristic position of the chanter bell: the Kolano and Kielich are turned at an angle of 90° in relation to the chanter; [8]: it has no metal reeds; [9]: its Koziołek has horns made of a boar’s tusks, and wide ears made of brass sheet; [10]: slow legato playing; NB: ➺ Dudy gostyńskie.
