Dudy gostyńskie (or gostyńsko-rawickie / rawicko-gostyńskie) (f) (plurale tantum)

One of the two basic types of Dudy, played in counties Gostyń, Jarocin, Krotoszyn, Ostrów, and Rawicz (Wielkopolska [Greater Poland]); Its characteristic features are: [1]: B♭ scale; [2]: pitches from B♭-B to c♯ -d; [3]: small dimensions, and therefore a specific way of holding the instrument (the drone rests against the elbow [➺ Drone positions]); [4]: the frequent use of apple, and pear as a basic building material, though plum remains dominant here, as well (➺ Wood types used); [5]: a short drone horn with bent Kolano, without twist; [6]: the Kolano of the chanter made of horn or wood, not covered with leather; [7]: the characteristic position of the Kielich with a Kolano bent exactly in an even line with the chanter; [8]: frequent use of metal reeds; [9]: its Koziołek has horns made of thin metal, and wooden or leather ears; [10]: very jaunty playing, with a kind of "beating, tapping"; NB¹: ➺ Wypukiwanie; NB²: ➺ Dudy bukowsko-kościańskie.
