From Serbian "Карабе" [Kàrabe]; Southern Banat, &c.; In »Micul dicționar academic« [The small academic dictionary] (București, 2010 [2nd ed.]) Carabă is defined as "chanter of the Cimpoi" (def. 2) and (by extension) "Cimpoi" [i.e. the entire instrument] (def. 4); According to Alexandru (1956), both spellings are used throughout the south of Banat, while Cărabă is also the pronunciation throughout Ardeal [Transylvania]; NB¹: Note the defective spelling in »Airs du temps«; NB² ➺ homonyms; NB³: ➺ Karaba and similar terms.
