Gaita-de-foles* (f)
bagpipe term also used for jew’s harp, mouth organ, accordion, &c.
NOT a bagpipe, but a homonym, used in northeastern Brazil for the common harmonicas, accordions or concertinas; According to Veiga de Oliveira, who refers to Luis da Câmara Cascudo, »Dicionario de folclore brasileiro« (Rio de Janeiro, 1954), the Portuguese bagpipe "seems to be known in certain southern regions of Brazil, as well"; NB¹: ➺ Portugal;
NB²: A Brazilian friend informed me that in Brazil the term usually refers to the Scottish Highland bagpipe!
